Like Sammy's, Neyow's specializes in unpretentious, huge portion versions of New Orleans neighborhood food (red beans, pork chops, stuffed peppers, etc.). On Tuesdays all poboys are $6.00. The oyster/shrimp poboy is light, delicate. The stuffed crab poboy (stuffing between bread) is a delicious carbohydrate carnival. The dining space is small, dominated by a granite-topped bar, a flat screen television (that's sometimes turned up too loud) and various photos, statues and paintings of dogs. This can feel whimsical and fun at lunch, but hokey and distracting at dinner. One of our favorites is their gumbo -- it's on the thin side but has a near-perfect balance of smoke, salt and seafood. Also recommended: cinnamon bread pudding.
